Profile

Lorne Alway has been in the Construction Industry for 25 years and in that period has worked with organisations in most sectors of the industry including building, civil engineering, marine engineering, petrochemical and oil rig construction, process plant and engineering and mechanical and electrical installation.

For the first 10 years of his career Lorne worked as a quantity surveyor, commencing as a junior quantity surveyor in professional practice and progressing via assistant and senior quantity surveyor with a Local Authority and contractors through to managing a team of quantity surveyors on rig construction and then running the London office for a firm of Chartered Quantity Surveyors.

Since 1986 Lorne has specialised in construction law and dispute resolution. During that period, which encompasses the formation and the commencement of trading of Alway Associates (1990), he has acted as Adjudicator and Expert Witness (Quantum) in a number of disputes, as well as lead representative in Arbitration in over 50 references and he has presented over 1200 seminars in the UK and abroad and on a range of topics related to law and dispute resolution in the Construction Industry.

Lorne undertakes the drafting of contracts and sub-contracts, pleadings and referrals, vetting of tenders, drafting and vetting of collateral warranties, bonds and guarantees, production of contract administration systems, provision of legal advice including procedural, advocacy in Arbitration and Adjudication, interlocutories and at hearings/meetings.

He also advises parties in joint venture and consortium relationships, partnering arrangements and PFI.
