ProfileMichael Rowlinson started work in the Construction Industry in 1976 since which time he has gained experience in most areas of building, both new build and refurbishment, civil and water engineering including clean and dirty water, reservoirs, heavy concrete structures, roads, bridges and rail, process engineering and mechanical and electrical installations. Prior to joining Alway Associates in 1998 Michael worked for a professional practice and three major national contractors rising to the Midlands' Area Quantity Surveyor for one company. During this period he undertook a whole range of quantity surveying tasks including interim and final account work, measurement, negotiation and financial management. From 1992 onwards Michael specialised, within the contracting organisations that employed him, in claims preparation, management of problematic commercial situations and the resolution of disputes including the management of others in such work. He joined Alway Associates to further specialise in dispute resolution and construction law. Michael undertakes the preparation of claims, gives advice on construction contracts and acts as representative in both Adjudication and Arbitration. Michael is one of the first to be awarded the title "CIOB Accredited in Adjudication", being the first formal qualification in this field. He has also acted as an Expert Witness in matters of quantum and presents seminars on standard forms of construction contracts, claims, dispute resolution and related legal matters. Michael served on the committee of the Chartered Institute of Building's Coventry & Warwickshire Centre, from 2003 to 2008. He was Chairman of the Centre for 2007/2008 and served on the CIOB West Midlands Branch Committee for the same period. He is also a member of the Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors' Contracts and Disputes Panel (formerly the Dispute Avoidance and Resolution Panel) and listed on the Confederation of Construction Specialists Panel of Adjudicators, an Adjudicator Nominating Body (ANB) for the purposes of the construction act. Michael is also the author of several published articles in connection with his areas of specialisation. |
