Qualifications

Jaz Bilkhu is Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) and is also a Professional Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb). His academic qualifications include BSc (Honours) Quantity Surveying, Diploma in Law from the College of Law and a Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Law.

Jaz Bilkhu has been working in the Construction Industry for over 10 years and during this time has gained experience in a wide range of market sectors within both the building and civil engineering industry including residential, office new build and refurbishment, leisure, education, retail, health, railways, bridge construction and land remediation.

Jaz has worked predominantly within professional practice and client organisations and as well as gaining considerable experience of cost management he has also gained knowledge of various procurement routes, developing and implementing contracting strategies and has attained an understanding of numerous forms of building and civil engineering contracts during this time. Jaz has also been involved with producing best practice commercial procedures for a client organisation.

Commencing his career as a graduate in 1996 he attained his chartership in 2000 whilst working within the Commercial Services team of a client organisation. Most recently Jaz has been working within one of the largest professional quantity surveying practices as Senior Associate where he was responsible for a team of quantity surveyors on various projects and having a key involvement with the day to day office management and business development.

During his career Jaz has been employed to undertake various commercial roles and during this time has gained experience of resolving pre and post contractual issues and disputes including evaluation and settlement of claims. He has considerable experience of developing and negotiating terms and conditions for amending standard forms of contract and has experience of negotiation of third party works agreements with developers, local authorities and train operating companies.

Jaz specialises in providing commercial and contractual advice to Contractor’s, Sub-Contractor’s, Employer’s and Consultants in relation to contracts, claims and dispute resolution which includes vetting contracts and claims analysis and preparation.

Jaz joined Alway Associates as Senior Consultant based in the Birmingham office and with special responsibility for developing the Midlands region in association with Mike Rowlinson and Lorne Alway.
