Robert is also in the Pool of the RICS Neighbourhood Dispute Resolution Pool. ProfileRobert Shawyer has been in the Construction Industry from leaving School at 18 being sponsored by a Main Contractor. Roberts time in the Construction Industry spans 24 years and in that period Robert has worked with organisations in most sectors of the industry including building, civil engineering, timber frame, mechanical and electrical engineering, etc.,. During this period Robert was awarded the Area Award of Merit in Quantity Surveying and Building Studies by the Building Employers Confederation for three successive years. Robert was born in 1967 and educated in London sponsored by a Main Contractor, thereby attaining practical training whilst studying. Robert moved to Wales from London in 1994 and now runs our Cardiff office managing the South West of Britain. Due to the high demand from clients in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland Robert now also runs our Belfast, Dublin and Galway offices managing all of Ireland. Aside from these locations Robert is also appointed by clients both within Britain and other international locations in providing training and the giving of seminars and in respect of contentious matters. Robert specialises in Construction Law and disputes including, vetting and drafting contracts, collateral warranty and administration systems, providing legal advice, including procedural, management of representations for the Referring or Responding party in Adjudication, management of representations for the Claimant or Defendant in Arbitration, Mediation, Conciliation, Expert Determination, etc. Robert advises in respect of Partnering and Frameworks Contracts and Agreements presenting training courses on Partnering arrangements plus a wide range of topics related to Contentious and non-Contentious matters such as Standard Forms of Contract, ADR forums and procedure, Design Liability, Programming and Planning, Management and Quantity Surveying techniques, Contract and Construction Law, etc. Robert’s strength and reason why he retains and attracts so many clients comes from his years of practical experience married with his great depth of both vocational and legal qualifications plus wealth of experience in all aspects of a Construction Contract and/or dispute including training, advising, drafting, negotiation, representation, determination and decision making. Robert has completed assisting the University of Glamorgan in their LLM in Commercial Dispute Resolution. Subjects include International Arbitration Law, ADR Practice and Ethics and Private International Law. * Whilst Robert is admitted a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales he is at no time acting as, giving opinion or advise in the capacity of a Solicitor. Robert has received nomination/request and/or appointment as Expert, Single Joint Expert, Mediator, Conciliator, Adjudicator and Arbitrator. With Adjudication being so prevalent in the United Kingdom Robert has now acted as Adjudicator in and lead representative in circa 300 adjudications. Robert's seminar requests have come from such institutions as the RICS, CIOB, CIPS, CIArb as well as trade and private corporations, local authorities, training providers and UK government organisations. As a result of acting as a representative or the tribunal deciding the matter and having presented hundreds of seminars Robert has developed a detailed knowledge of standard forms of Design and/or Supply and/or erect and/or provision of services Contracts such as the JCT '80, '98 and 2005 edition suites, GC/Works, MF, NEC 1st, 2nd and 3rd Editions, PPC 2000 and 2003 Amendment, New Irish Government Contracts, IEI, RIAI, FIDIC, ICE, GDLA, CIF and many more. This also assists when drafting or considering bespoke agreements. Robert is also currently assisting in the co-authorship of a Construction book. Robert has also been requested to advise Procurement Strategy teams on the impact of EU Law on tendering and procurement local authority and private stategies.
